Avera Health Foundation
The Avera Health Foundation exists to help people share in the Avera ministry of health and healing. We solicit gifts from our many friends and distribute them to meet health care needs of people throughout eastern South Dakota and neighboring states.
With our donors' gifts, we touch many lives in many ways. For example, we purchase meals, assist burn victims, establish wellness programs, remodel emergency rooms, test infants' hearing, develop hospice services, provide lodging for out-of-town patients, purchase pianos for retirement centers and supply a warm jacket and sturdy shoes patients who need them. Last year, generous donors contributed over $1 million for worthwhile projects at our partner-facilities.

Local Disaster Assistance
Over the past several days, we have seen and heard many stories of the destruction caused by the tornadoes and heavy rains that fell across the region late last week. The property damage is extensive and many people in flooded areas are holding their breath to see if their basements will collapse once the water recedes. If you can make a financial contribution of $25, $50, $100, $500 or whatever size you are most comfortable with, please do so. We will direct your gift to relief efforts based in communities experiencing these hardships. The Avera Foundation will match the first $15,000 that is raised.
You can bring your check to the Avera Foundation or send it along with a note that it is for Local Disaster Assistance. You may also take your check to your local Avera hospital’s Foundation office or make your gift via credit card by donating online . Please select the Avera Health Foundation Caring for Life as the designation for your gift.

Avera Community Service Fund (Grants)
The Avera Health Community Service Fund has touched communities all across the Avera network of Care. We are pleased to once again offer this opportunity to encourage a healthcare/ wellness impact. This is an opportunity to be creative, to be innovative to dream about creating a program or project that will impact the current and ongoing health of your community.
The information/application for the 2008 cycle for the Community Service Fund process is enclosed. This past year 28 projects or programs received awards totaling $343,500. The largest award was $50,000, and the smallest award was $2,500. We encourage projects that are out of the ordinary, projects that impact.
The applications are due on February 28. Please, carefully review the areas that explain what the Community Service Fund will not fund. It may help answer some of your initial questions.
If you send an e-mail message to the Avera Foundation at foundation@avera.org with CSF in the subject line, your e-mail address will be added to the automatic update listing. This will provide you quicker notification of the upcoming cycles and will save money in mailing costs.
