Avera Transplant Institute Bone Marrow Transplant Program FACT Accredited

Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center isFACT certificate proud to recognize the continued excellence and expansion of the Avera McKennan Transplant Institute.

  • On January 24, 2008, Avera McKennan was awarded FACT's* prestigious 3-year accreditation, recognizing the BMT program for its quality management including documentation, review and reporting and safety.
  • This is the second 3-year accreditation for autologous transplantation (blood progenitor/stem cells that are "donated" by the patient). The accreditation is also for allogeneic transplantation (blood progenitor/stem cells that are "donated" by a sibling, or that come from the unrelated donor registry).
  • This accreditation involves not only the clinical program provided by transplant physicians and team, but also the cell collection and laboratory processing areas of the hospital.

*FACT is a non-profit organization developed by the International Society for Cellular Therapy (ISCT) and the American Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT) to establish standards for high quality medical and laboratory practice. The major objective of FACT is to promote high quality patient care and quality laboratory performance in the belief that a valid accreditation must assess both clinical and laboratory aspects.
