Tyler Healthcare Center/Avera has been offering comprehensive healthcare to the area since 1915 and our committment to your family's health has never been stronger.
Our History
In 1915, Dr. A.L. Vadheim realized a hospital was needed for the welfare of his patients. With the aid of two associates, he founded a five-bed hospital on Main Street. This hospital was destroyed by a tornado three years later. In 1920, an 18-bed facility was constructed and served the community of Tyler until 1958. In 1958, the A.L. Vadheim Memorial Hospital was constructed.
A 14-bed addition was built in 1964. Sunrise Manor, a 43-bed skilled nursing facility, was dedicated in 1976. Home Care services were added in 1985. Management of the clinic building was assigned to Tyler Healthcare Center, Inc. in 1991 to reflect the wide range of integrated healthcare services we offer.
