Valley Manor Activities

At Valley Manor we realize how important activities are to everyone, including the elderly. We encourage all residents to be as active as they can be in large group, small group and individual activities. We strive to provide individualized activities to meet the needs of every resident. Every person needs to feel they have a purpose or reason for being and the goal of the activity department is to help each resident know they still have something valuable to give.

We encourage family participation and input; as who knows your loved one and his or her likes better than family and friends. We are always interested in knowing specific activities your loved one enjoys or has enjoyed in the past. Will do our best to incorporate these activities in our programming. Our number one goal is to ensure your loved one enjoys the time spent with us.

Wheel chair accessible van

Valley Manor does own a wheel chair assessable van that is used for group outings and may be used to help transfer your resident. The van is available to escort your loved one to family gatherings, doctor appointment or special functions. The van is available based on employee driver availability and there is a cost for private use of the van. Please contact the activity department for more information on this service at (712) 476-8213 or valerie.schoo@heggmemorialhealthcenter.org .

Family parties

Our activity room is available for family parties with your loved one. This room is available when arrangements have been made with the activity department. A signed agreement form for use of this room must be turned in to the activity department prior to use of this room. There is no fee to use the room we only ask rules be followed and other residents be treated respectfully while you enjoy the use of the activity center.

Volunteers

Valley Manor utilizes volunteer services daily within the facility. We have many volunteers ranging in age from 11 to 80 something. We have many wonderful volunteers who help our residents in large group activities like bingo and crafts. We also have volunteer who assist our residents by providing personal visits for those who are unable; for one reason or another; to attend group activities or have little independent activity.

We have a wonderful candy-striping program at Valley Manor. This program is a positive way for residents to great intergenerational activity daily.

The activity department is always looking for additional volunteers and would be happy to meet with anyone interested in providing volunteer services.
