Influenza A (H1N1)

Novel Influenza A (H1N1) is a flu virus first detected in April, 2009 with a second wave occurring in the fall of 2009.   Currently, Iowa is continuing to see sporadic cases of H1N1 as well as a few cases of Influenza B.  The strain of Influenza B that has been diagnosed was included in the seasonal flu vaccine that was offered in the fall.  Typically with new strains of influenza such as H1N1, a third wave of cases is seen.  It is unknown when or if this will happen with H1N1.  Currently H1N1 activity is high in other countries such as Africa and Central America .
