A Great Place to Volunteer!

With over 800 dedicated volunteers, Avera McKennan is a great place to be a volunteer. Are you looking for a purpose? Want to help others? Interested in meeting people? Need to gain new skills? Volunteers serve in the hospital, at Avera Prince of Peace, in clinics, in Hospice, and in the community.

From clerical work to assisting patients, teens, retired individuals and men and women of all ages volunteer at Avera McKennan. It's worthwhile and enjoyable; Avera McKennan is a great place to volunteer!

On an average day, 80 volunteers are here serving 315 hours; that is the equivalent of over 39 full-time employees! Volunteers are able to enhance the services provided to ensure patients are treated with compassion and visitors with hospitality. Volunteers add an extra touch wherever they serve.

Because of health care guidelines, volunteers must be 14 years of age. Most volunteers give of their time on a regularly scheduled, weekly basis. However, many volunteers come several times each week and some volunteer in several different areas. Our goal is to work with you.

Volunteer Application Process and Volunteer Positions

To become a volunteer, you need to complete an application. We will then meet with you to discuss your interests, days and times available, and how we can help you meet your goals of becoming a volunteer. We'll also help match our needs with your interests.

Volunteering actually promotes good health spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Medical research shows that not only do volunteers feel healthier, they actually are healthier due to increased energy, lower blood pressure, less depression, and better eating and sleeping habits. Kahlil Gibran said, "You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give." It is evident that volunteers always get more than they give.
