Our Facility
The Avera IHBG is located in Sioux Falls, S.D., within the Avera Behavioral Health Center, a state-of-the-art 110-bed facility providing care for children, adolescents, adults and seniors.
The IHBG scientific laboratory is a modern laboratory and workstation space housing cutting-edge genetics laboratory equipment which allows researchers to describe a patient’s genetic profile.
Our equipment includes:
- The GeneChip Instrumentation System from Affymetrix, an integrated system giving a researcher the flexibility to view the genome at a global level or focus on a specific subset of genes for both expression profiling and DNA analysis.
- DNA Sequencer from Applied Biosystems, which allows for the process of determining the order of nucleotide bases, adenine, quanine, cytosine and thymine in DNA. The DNA sequence constitutes the genetic information that is passed on to future generations, and determining this sequence is essential in genetic research.
- Roche Amplichip Cytochrome P450 Genotyping test is a laboratory system available through Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center’s laboratory to help physicians personalize treatment options for their patients.
