"Active"-ity Challenge of the Week

Camping

Camping is a fun and unforgettable experience, especially when you go in South Dakota. The wide variety of landscapes in South Dakota provide you with some of the best places to go camping, and what better way to get some time outdoors exercising than to take your friends and family on a camping trip. One of the closer campgrounds to Sioux Falls is Newton Hills State Park, located six miles south of Canton off of County Road 135. During your stay will have plenty of time to take a bike ride on the Woodland Trail, National Recreational Trail or six-mile multi-use trail.

Another campground in the Sioux Falls vicinity is Palisades State Park. Located seven miles north and one mile west of Interstate 90, exit 410, the Palisades offer a wide variety of activities to participate in. The favorite for most people is rock climbing. Courses are offered for beginning rock climbers through Sylvan Rocks Climbing School & Survival Guide Service. Mike Greeno, an AMGA Certifited TR Guide, will help you learn the basics of rock climbing. For more information on rock climbing programs at Palisades, visit Sylvan Rocks.

These two campgrounds just scratch the surface of the several amazing campgrounds located in South Dakota. Try a different activity at each site you visit for optimal exercise benefits! For a listing and details of campgrounds near you, visit Travel SD.
