Strategies and information for preventing cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children are presented. The student will also develop the cognitive and psychomotor skills necessary for resuscitation and stabilization of the infant or child in respiratory failure, shock, or cardiopulmonary arrest. This is accomplished by the use of lecture, practical application of skills and knowledge, and case presentations. This two-day (16-hour) course is intended for healthcare providers (paramedics, nurses, or physicians) with responsibilities for the well being of infants and children.

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

The first moments of an infant’s life can be crucial. In this abrupt transition from the uterus to the extrauterine environment, the neonate is at most risk for asphyxia and in more need for resuscitation than any other age group. The way in which the resuscitation is managed can have consequences over an entire lifetime, directly affecting the quality of the infant’s life. This course provides the knowledge and skills needed to perform a neonatal resuscitation. Course content emphasizes didactic, skills, and simulated situations for practice to obtain the confidence and skills required to perform a correct and timely resuscitation. This is a one-day (8-hour) course designed for healthcare providers (paramedics, nurses, and physicians) who may be required to assist in an obstetrical delivery situation.

Pre-requisite:

  • EMT-Paramedic Certification, RN, or Physician
  • Background in Basic Dysrhythmia Recognition
