Avera Children's Hospital & Clinics Launches 'Virtual' Walk Across America to Raise Funds for Seriously Ill Children
SIOUX FALLS, SD (October 2008)- Today, countless children locally and across America face increasing challenges to their health-challenges ranging from the growing number of uninsured kids to the steadily climbing statistics on childhood obesity. Avera Children's Hospital & Clinics will hit the streets to tackle these challenges and raise funds to help bring better health care to more of America's children.
Through Oct. 31, Together for Kids, a national alliance of 53 hospitals serving children, including Avera Children's Hospital & Clinics, will launch Walk Across America. Avera McKennan will hold a "virtual" walk during this time period. The virtual walk will allow busy people to contribute to improving children's health care without having to walk at a certain time or place. Walk Across America is a national campaign to promote a healthy lifestyle for kids and raise money to help member hospitals provide quality care to seriously ill children.
Money raised will go directly to children's hospitals in the Together for Kids network. One hundred percent of donations directed to Avera McKennan will be used to benefit children locally. Avera Children's Hospital & Clinics encourages kids and their families in our community to participate in this Walk Across America event by registering online at the Together for Kids Web site (www.togetherforkids.org). At the site, participants can go to the Avera Children's individual Walk web page and make a miles-walked pledge or a fixed donation. Supporters can walk a route of their choice and raise money as an individual, or join a team of co-workers or students and collect pledges for each mile walked.
