Avera McKennan Welcomes First Baby of 2010

Avera McKennan's first baby of the year and decade was born at 8:12 a.m., Friday, Jan. 1.

Darius James Saxen is the son of Meron Horsa and Biff Saxen of Sioux Falls. He weighed in at an even 7 pounds.

Meron said she was a little surprised to have a New Year's baby, as her due date was December 26. "We were actually expecting a Christmas baby." Instead, the baby will have another major holiday - New Year's Day - as his birthday. Also thanks to his late arrival, Darius has the distinctive birthdate of 01-01-10.

Darius joins three siblings at home. The family received a gift basket compliments of Avera McKennan in honor of the special arrival.
