Dr. Barker named an ACP Master

 

SIOUX FALLS (May 8, 2009) - Dr. John Barker Jr., gastroenterologist with Avera Gastroenterology Clinic in Sioux Falls, has recently been named a Master in the American College of Physicians. The recognition was announced at the April 23-25 ACP Internal Medicine 2009 event held in Philadelphia.

Masters comprise a small group of highly distinguished physicians, selected from among Fellows, who have achieved recognition in medicine by exhibiting preeminence in practice or medical research, holding positions of high honor, or making significant contributions to medical science or the art of medicine. They are recommended by the Awards Committee for election to Mastership by the Board of Regents. Dr. Barker is one of four ACP Masters in the state of South Dakota. Dr. Edward Zawada, critical care specialist and nephrologist with the Avera North Central Kidney Institute, is also a Master.

Dr. Barker holds a degree from University of Minnesota Medical School and completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and University of Iowa at Iowa City, respectively. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
